World premiere of Jean-Michel Jarre's 'Hymn to the Acropolis'

ARCHIVE SECTION ATHENS, SATURDAY-SUNDAY, JUNE 16-17, 2001

Jean-Michel Jarre inspects the Herod Atticus Theater and the surrounding areas, pondering the acoustics for the 'Hymn to the Acropolis.'

Renowned French composer Jean-Michel Jarre is in Athens and will start rehearsals today for the concerts on June 19 and 21. The performances are fund-raisers for the Elpida Association (for children with cancer) and the construction of the first cancer hospital for children. The Acropolis Museum and the Melina Mercouri Foundation's campaign for the return of the Parthenon marbles will also get 5 percent of the proceeds. Elpida President Marianna Vardinoyianni greeted Jarre at the airport. Admission to the full rehearsal on Monday will be free of charge for children with special needs.
